Rogers Cup Ticket Sales Reaching Record Highs

With seven days remaining until main draw action gets underway at Rexall Centre, Tennis Canada announced Monday that ticket sales for the upcoming Rogers Cup in Toronto are approaching record levels.
Tickets to the final weekend are sold out minus a limited amount of upper bowl seats for semifinal Saturday. Sales are currently $1.8 million ahead of 2006 when the stars of the ATP last visited the campus of York University.
“The reputation of Rogers Cup as a world-class event, combined with the momentum following the Wimbledon final has resulted in historic highs,” said Karl Hale, tournament director, Rogers Cup. “With Daniel (Nestor) completing the Golden Slam and a (Roger) Federer versus (Rafael) Nadal epic final, tennis is currently the talk around water coolers everywhere. Additionally, having hired a new event caterer, Marigolds & Onions, has heightened interest by fans in our food and beverage service. Our ticket holders expect and deserve an increase to the fan experience each year.”
The day after the memorable Wimbledon gentlemen’s final, Tennis Canada sold $120,000 worth of tickets to Rogers Cup as fans hope to catch a glimpse of the global stars. Early bird series renewals were completed at an astonishing 70 per cent rate, which carries ticket holders through the 2012 Rogers Cup. Tennis Canada is currently on pace to surpass the $10 million stadium sales mark, which would break the record set by Montreal last year when they reached the $9.9 million plateau.
As a non-profit organization, surplus from the two Rogers Cup tournaments is redirected to tennis development throughout Canada.
