Zimonjic/Nestor, Bryans To Clash in Toronto Final
Stanford ATP Doubles Race Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic defeated No. 7 seeds Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes 6-3, 7-6(5) on Saturday at the Rogers Cup in Toronto to advance to their sixth straight final.
Nestor is through to his second Toronto final, having won the title in 2000 with countryman Sebastien Lareau, while Zimonjic's previous best finish was the quarterfinals in 2006 (w/Santoro).
Dlouhy and two-time Canada champion Paes were attempting to reach the second final of their young partnership, following a runner-up effort at Halle last month (l. to Youzhny/Zverev). In their last tournament appearance at Wimbledon, they also fell victim to Nestor and Zimonjic in the semifinals.
Nestor and Zimonjic improve to a 35-11 season record, and have now won 13 consecutive matches. Since May, they have compiled a 25-2 record with titles at Masters Series Hamburg, Queen's Club and Wimbledon, and runner-up finishes at Masters Series Rome and Roland Garros.
The second-seeded Canadian-Serbian duo will attempt to clinch their third straight title when they face top seeds and two-time champions Mike and Bob Bryan, who defeated Australians Paul Hanley and Jordan Kerr, 6-3, 6-4.
The Bryans won the Canada title in 2002 (d. Knowles/Nestor) and '06 (d. Hanley/Ullyett) and now improve their event record to 17-5. This season they have won three titles at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Barcelona and Masters Series Rome and reached the finals at five other tournaments.
